Ever since Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. merged under the Skydance umbrella, the mega conglomerate has made a slew of announcements about new films. This is partly to meet Skydance’s requirement to make 30 films a year for two years or face financial penalties. Some of these major announcements include a new Transformers entry produced by Steven Spielberg and a live-action Cyberpunk 2077.
While Skydance seems to be announcing movies aimed at an older male demographic, it also has big plans for its family titles. Specifically, Nickelodeon holds popular intellectual property such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a sequel to an animated action fantasy family film released in the summer of 2026 that grossed $160.9 million worldwide.
Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures is developing a new PAW Patrol movie. Spin Master Corp., Paramount Animation, and Nickelodeon Movies will reteam on the fourth PAW Patrol film. Cal Brunker, who directed the previous three theatrical entries, is set to return to helm the fourth. Paramount Pictures is eyeing a 2029 release date.
Jennifer Doge, President of Paramount Animation, who formerly worked for PAW Patrol toy manufacturer Spin Master Corp., said in a statement:
“PAW Patrol has a special place in the hearts of families around the world, and we’re thrilled to continue the pups’ journey on the big screen. Together, with our partners at Spin Master, we’re excited to bring audiences another adventure that’s made for the theatrical experience. Watching the way audiences have connected with the PAW movies has been incredible. We’ve written a new story that we think audiences are going to love, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
PAW Patrol is an animated series and toy line. The series follows a young boy named Ryder who leads a crew of search-and-rescue dogs named PAW Patrol. Each dog has a unique skill set for a specific job, including firefighter, police officer, and construction, among others. The group works together to protect the shoreside community of Adventure Bay and its surrounding areas.
Since its debut in 2013, PAW Patrol has generated billions of dollars in revenue and has become one of the highest-grossing toy lines in history. The popular series has an equally beloved film franchise. With the movie series began in 2021, the three PAW Patrol entries have grossed $512.6 million worldwide combined (Box Office Watch). The PAW Patrol series recently entered its fourteenth season on Nick Jr. Vishnu Athreya, EVP & President of Spin Master Entertainment, said regarding the fourth PAW Patrol movie:
“PAW Patrol is a global entertainment phenomenon, and we’re investing in the franchise to give fans more of what they love. Looking to the future, we want to further expand the PAW Patrol universe through movies, series, specials, short-form video, and connected play to bring joy to the next generation of kids wherever they are. There are endless storytelling possibilities – this is just the beginning.”
Paramount Pictures has clearly found a successful long-term franchise with PAW Patrol, as Deadline reports the series has been the number-one series on Nick Jr. since it debuted over a decade ago. It reaches audiences in over 190 territories and 33 languages. The animated series has amassed more than 10 million YouTube subscribers. Based on the numbers, PAW Patrol won’t be going away anytime soon, and since Skydance will need to make 32 films per year over a three-year period starting in 2029, a fourth film set for release that year makes even more sense.
