Brad Pitt & Jon Bernthal’s 135-Minute Military Action Thriller Officially Sets Netflix Streaming Date

Fury 1

Following his breakout role in The Walking Dead, Jon Bernthal quickly became an action hero to watch thanks to projects like The Accountant, The Odyssey, and (of course), The Punisher. While he may not be on the same level as Brad Pitt when it comes to star power, the two together are an unstoppable force, as is evident by their 2014 military action thriller that’s coming to Netflix.

Brad Pitt & Jon Bernthal Battle Nazis In an Epic WWII Movie

Hitting theaters on Oct. 17, 2014, Fury stars Pitt as Don “Wardaddy” Collier, a battle-hardened U.S. Army sergeant leading a tank crew through the final stages of the war in Nazi Germany. Bernthal plays Grady Travis, one of the crew members who is given the moniker “Coon-Ass” due to his Louisiana roots.

Directed by David Ayer (The Beekeeper, A Working Man) Fury also stars Shia LaBeouf as Boyd “Bible” Swan, Michael Peña as Trini “Gordo” Garcia, and Jason Isaacs as Captain Waggoner. Its plot follows Wardaddy’s tight-knit crew as they embark on their latest mission, which involves driving a Sherman tank through enemy territory to support the advancing American infantry and eliminate German resistance.

active tab, highlight, change arrows and NEW badge. */

Complicating matters is the addition of Norman Ellison (Logan Lerman), a young, inexperienced soldier who joins the team as their assistant tank gunner. Having little understanding of the realities of combat, he must confront the brutal choices that come with survival as Wardaddy struggles to keep his men alive.

Also featuring an appearance by Scott Eastwood in the film’s early stages, Fury might not be based on a true story, but it is an unflinching look at the horrors of war that combines brutal combat with psychological drama to deliver a movie that’s become known for its intense tank battles and grim atmosphere. Pitt gives an outstanding performance as the team’s hardened leader, while the rest of the cast has such strong chemistry that the men feel more like a dysfunctional family than a group of soldiers.

‘Fury’ Rolls Onto Netflix Next Month

Holding a Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes of 75% and an audience rating of 84%, Fury has been called everything from “wildly entertaining” to “one of the greatest WWII movies.” Some have said it’s even better than Saving Private Ryan, but that might be pushing it a little.

Either way, Fury is all set to roll onto its new streaming home of Netflix very soon. The WWII smash will arrive on Nov. 1, meaning you don’t have much of a wait before it’s available to stream. The film is just one of several action thrillers being added to the streaming platform next month, as movies such as Air Force One, Cliffhanger, and The Day After Tomorrow are also making their way onto Netflix in November.

Next up for Pitt is The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, which releases in IMAX Nov. 25 and hits Netflix on Dec. 23. The film sees him reprise his role from the Quentin Tarantino favorite, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. As for Bernthal? He can currently be seen in two of the biggest movies of the year so far: Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey.
