Ahead of its streaming debut this November, Netflix‘s new star-studded war epic is now playing in theaters. Featuring Bill Skarsgård and Nicholas Galitzine, the 127-minute film is based on the true story of when a group of former college football stars enlisted in the U.S. Marines during World War II following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Unfortunately, despite some early positive buzz, the final verdict has arrived, and critics are not impressed with Netflix’s latest feature-length effort.

As of this writing, The Mosquito Bowl has a 36% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 14 reviews. Critics have asserted that Peter Berg’s visceral and action-packed direction cannot completely make up for the lack of a polished script with fleshed-out characters. Flickering Myth‘s review states that Mosquito Bowl is solid as a “sensory war experience,” the film ultimately fumbles in every other aspect.

More to come.
