Taylor Sheridan’s work on Landman has become revered over the last few years, adding the show to his long list of successes. Led by Billy Bob Thornton, the Paramount+ series dives deep into the oil business in West Texas, including run-ins with dangerous drug cartels and intense family drama, giving a massive ensemble cast the chance to shine around Thornton. This show is only one of a few similar projects to be released in recent years, including an exciting new theatrical release.
Writer/director Adam Seidel draws inspiration from Landman for his new movie, Williston, the second he has directed after 2026’s Anywhere. On-screen, the cast is led by Jonathan Lipnicki (Primetime, Jerry Maguire), Matt Walsh (Ghosts, Ted), and Geneva Carr (It’s Complicated, Bull). Lipnicki is also an executive producer on the movie, telling Deadline in Dec. 2025 that he “was eager to collaborate with [Seidel]” after briefly working together on Anywhere. Now, their work has come to fruition in the first full look at Williston.
Collider shared the first official trailer for the new psychological thriller, Williston. Leading stars Jonathan Lipnicki (Tom), Matt Walsh (Larry), and Geneva Carr (Barb) make a trek to rural North Dakota to negotiate for the rights to land that could deliver a massive oil boom. However, the land is owned by a man named Indian Jim, who fiercely resents the oil industry and firmly sends away anybody who has attempted to buy the rights before. Also included is the movie’s official poster and new images of the main cast.
More to come…
